It was a beautiful day for fishing, the temperatures were in the 80's and a nice breeze was blowing so we packed up our
gear, a nice lunch and our pups and headed back to Guilford Lake. We found a great spot to fish just below an old
tree so we had lots of shade and the pups seemed to enjoy the spot too. My first cast of the day no sooner hit the water and
I was reeling back in a 7" blue gill. The day went that way with the fish, between Scooter and I we brought in almost
a dozen in 6 hours. We caught everything from blue gill to bass, crappie to perch, none worth keeping though. Scooter's
first cast brought him in an 8" blue gill, we must have hit a school swimming by. Our next batch were crappie I caught 3 more
and Scooter caught about 4. Scooter was having fun fighting with the bass the most, his first one was just a baby but it put
up a great fight. As the day progressed we continued reeling in the fish, I had to tease Scooter about his illegal fishing
techniques of snagging fish, he caught a bluegill by the bottom fin on his belly. The last catch of the day brought in a large
mouth bass about 10", he swallowed the hook so we had to send him back bleeding, don't think the poor guy made it....
We had a great time on the lake and was able to share in many more memories. If you get a chance to fish there, fish down
by the Ranger Station, it's a great place to go for serenity and R & R.
