Being the spontaneous type we are, Scooter and I decided to set out for a new adventure. A lady out at Berlin told us
of this great lake in New Garden called Guilford Lake so we thought we would give it a try. We packed up our stuff and
headed out on the highway around 9 am, what started out as a 45 min trip ended up being a 2hr. trip. Neither one of us
had ever been down to Columbiana so we printed out driving directions off the computer. Folks let me tell ya, never trust
those directions, they sent us into Alliance when we should have been in Salem. Well anyway, we finally reached our destination
about 11 am. We found a great spot to fish, people all around us was catching fish and we were getting plenty of hits
but boy was it hot. The sun was getting to be too much so between Scooter and me we fanangled an umbrella cover on the back
of my chair, whew, what a relief. There were a few ladies and the pup fishing down the way from us. The pup was more anxious
to catch a fish than everybody. Her owner would catch something and she would take no time to get into a play mode. The one
lady would through the bluegill back and she would go fetch them in the water. It kept me amuzed while I waited
for my turn. Scooter caught a bunch of bluegill and a crappie he named Fred. We brought Fred home to add to our aquarium
but our Tiger Oscar was not pleased with his presence and took him out. Pee Wee doesn't like anyone, we have an 18" rubber
lip Plecosomus and he picks on him all the time, he's a good 12" himself so he tries to rule the tank. But anyway back to
our adventure, I brought in a few bluegill and a 6" Perch but I didn't keep him/her. We fished for about 7 hrs until we ran
out of worms and corn just wasn't doing it alone. The fish sure did like my homemade garlic attractant, I would
get hit as soon as I threw out my line. It was an adventuresome day at Guilford Lake and a place I would like to go back to
if not for the fish, just for the peace alone. Well our adventure wasn't over, we had 1/4 of a tank of gas to get back
on and let me tell you, the good Lord was with us on our way back. It was all country roads where we were. I was hoping to
find a gas station in Salem on the way home but the way we went there was none. We made it to Western Reserve Rd. to a Shell
station with our needle on "EEEEEEEEEE", Scooter was quite releaved stating I love to live dangerously. Naw, not dangerously
just on the edge of glory!!!!!!!!
