Today we took another spontaneous and well deserved fishing day to one of our favorite spots out at Berlin Lake. The
sun was hot but we were in our nice shaded nook in the woods. We got there around 11:30 and within the first 1/2 hour
I had my first catch of the day, a 4" channel cat named "Mr. Wiggles" due to each time I would try to get him off my hook
he would flip around and I really didn't care to get stung so Scooter came over and assisted in the surgery then sent him
swimming. All I could seem to catch was cats I caught another channel cat around 1:15 then NOTHING but small bites after so
I took matters in my own hands and decided to try Swedish Fish as a bait. The action picked up immensely. I lost 3 hooks and
a few sinkers along with my bait, I never caught the darn fish but was curious just what was down there that could have took
hook and all.. I snagged a few more but not well enough and they got loose whereas Scooter got his share of fish for the day.
His first catch was a 5" blue gill. He also caught a 6" small mouth bass both which we set free, he latched onto a baby catfish
also around 4 1/2" but it looked as if we were going to have a catch and release day. for the longest time all we would get
was nibbles, we both thought we forgot how to fish. Desperate for something to bring home for our end of season fish fry Scooter
also tried my Swedish Fish and worm combination, there must have been some junk food junkies down there looking for a sweet
treat. They would steal our bait but would get away. Well finally around 7pm just as we launched our last cast of the day
and Scooter took a walk to the woods, leaving me with both poles, Goliath hit, a massive carp that had his meium action pole
bent in half. I had a nice battle with him and got him to the bank enough to see his size, he had to be every bit 25". I yelled
out "Oh Sh**" and Scooter came back quick enough to see his catch. Just as I turned to grab a net Goliath broke free so I
never really had an opportunity to get him up on the bank for a picturesque moment. The craziest thing about the whole adventure
is just before Scooter took his walk he had just made a comment about where all the fish were and even the carp. We
joked for a about hour about using Swedish Fish as bait and a group of folks on a boat close by was asking us about how deep
we were fishing and what we were using as bait when we told them they must have thought we were off our rockers and went about
fishing for their walleyes. That concluded another well deserved day of R & R. We packed up and headed home empty handed
this time with lots of crazy tales to tell......
