I couldn't wait to get out on the lake for some good quality downtime. Scooter and I packed up Merc and headed out to Newport Lake around 9:30. The lake looked nice and clean and clear this year so we thought we would try our luck at our favorite fishing spot nesseled back in the woods. Within the first 15 minutes Scooter had his first two blue gill. Guess that extra garlic in "Bite Me" did wonders. None of the fish we caught was under 6". Scooter caught a nice variety from blue gill to perch to large mouth bass to crappie. They all gave up a nice fight. I didn't do too well at first but as I always say, "If you open it, they will come". I stuck my pole between my legs to get my sandwich out and low and behold, my first hit, it was a nice size one too to give me a true Whahoooooo moment. I quickly grabbed the pole and started reeling in but about a foot out my big guy wiggled off, I didn't set my hook good enough I guess but oh well. Scooter was reeling them in one after another, those fish sure was into gourmet, between the tuna and garlic we were bringing all kinds of fish our way. I have always told Scooter my three favorite things to do is spend good quality time with him, listen to my radio and fish. The fish was into Mix 98.9 and seemed to enjoy being seranaded. I was having fun singing when I finally latched onto my first fish, a sweet 8" crappie, he gave me a good fight but this one stayed on my line... Scooter was latching onto some big guys, all in all he had to have caught over 2 dozen between the gills, crappies, lg.mouth bass and blue gill. Everytime we go out we always wish each other luck and say now don't catch all the fish, heck I may as well save my breath with him... We talked about going fishing in different areas and bringing the pups but I often wondered what would happen if we caught a pike, muskie or walley of any significant size, we couldn't put it in Merc, it may try to eat my dog, those suckers have big teeth!!! Guess we would have to bungie cord the fish to the roof of our SUV and pray we don't get pulled over by a state trooper. I could just picture this fish on the roof groovin' to the tunes on the radio, now how funny would that be???
We fished for about 6 hrs. before calling it a day, what a great time, can't wait to hit the lakes again this coming week!!!!!!
