"Shining Lights"

Have you ever thought about why folks display such an elaborate array of lights at Christmas? Do you know the meaning behind the lights? Well if you ever wondered what it was about, kick back and let me tell you a little story about the true meaning of Christmas lights.

Every year as the Christmas season approaches, I crawl up into my storage area to get ready for the Holidays. This year Scooter approached me and asked me why I put so many lights out and decorate as I do. Well my answer was it was through tradition and my love of the Holidays that I do what I do. We both come from different walks of life. My family always had grand parties, lit our houses to the hilt and ate till we gained many pounds, whereas my husbands family did things differently, they didn't decorate as I, thier family never shared in the many types of food we did and when Christmas day came to an end they took their tree down and went about. We discussed our traditions and it wasn't until this year we both truly learned the meaning of the lights.
As we sat in church on New Years Day, Fr. Ed Noga and a guest speaker by the name of Mr. Lawson talked about the 300lb Christmas tree that was displayed at the Arms Museum. The tree was decorated with many crystals that helped illuminate the light in many ways and colors, a vision that one must truly need to see. Fr. Ed told us that the meaning of the lights was to bring healing to those who needed it, to bring togetherness and faith within our hearts. It was at that point, it hit me why the lights mezmorized me as they do and it was at that moment Scooter finally understood why I do as I do at Christmas. By lighting the lights outside, it is in hope of bringing unity and love amongst those who need it the most in their lives and to help find comfort for those who may need to find the healing within their hearts, minds and souls.
This year I had two trees lit, many lights and wreaths lit and an unprofund love in my heart. My big tree was decorated with all glass ornaments, icicles, angels, santas and stars that illuminated the lights within our living room. I hated to put them away after the New Year but I have a whole new year to decide how I want to bring the love of Christmas to all those around me. May your shining lights glow not only in your eyes but in your hearts and may the spirit of Christmas have a new meaning to all.....
