Ingredients
12 eggs
4 TBSP shortning melted
4 TBSP sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 TBSP orange juice
9 C flour
1/2 gallon of vegetable oil for frying
Powdered sugar for topping once fried
Directions
Combine eggs and shortning in a bowl, mix well add sugar, vanilla and
orange juice mix well, gradually add in flour mixing well, it will form a dough. If dough is sticky add just a little more
flour but do not over add.
Cut into chunks and roll out thin 1/4", I use an old fashioned pasta
maker to roll my dough ,( thickness 5). Once the dough is in thin pieces, cut into 4" x 2" strips cut a slice in middle and
turn dough inside out to form a bow tie. cut all cookies first before frying because they fry quick.
Heat your oil in a 3Qt - 5Qt sauce pan like you would for making french
fries. When oil becomes hot drop the bowties into the oil a few at a time and fry for about 1-2 min or until golden and crisp,
remove and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
You can store them in a box or popcorn tin , they do not freeze, they
are like a potato chip and keep for a long time in an airtight container.
This recipe yields 1 bushel of cookies, I usually cut this in half.
